When should you buy a custom coupling?

Custom coupling is a coupling which can meet the special requirements that the standard type of shaft coupling cannot meet. Although almost standard types of shaft couplings can meet the requirements, some users sometimes have the machines whose shaft couplings are not standard types. You can ask the factory to do a custom coupling by offering the basic parameters.

1.        The custom coupling model is composed of group code, variety code, and structure type code.

2.        The group code, type code, and structure code of the custom coupling shall be coded by the first Chinese Pinyin letter of the first character of its name. If there are repetitions, take the second letter, or the first or second Chinese Pinyin letter of the second and third characters in the name, or the first and second Chinese Pinyin letters with characteristic characters in the name. The principle is that the same group, variety and structure type shall not overlap each other.

3.        The main parameter of the custom coupling is the nominal torque 7; the unit is N. m, and its parameter value should meet the requirements of GB/T 3507-2008.

4.        The nominal torque sequence number or size parameter of the custom industrial coupling is the specification code of the coupling.

5.        When the custom coupling type and size of the main and driven ends of the coupling are exactly the same, only one end can be marked


How to choose a custom coupling?

According to the size of the transferred load, the speed of the shaft, and the installation accuracy of the two parts to be connected, choose a suitable custom coupling, together with referring to the characteristics of various couplings. The following points can be considered when selecting:

The size and nature of the torque to be transmitted and the requirements for the cushioning function. For example, for high-power and heavy-duty transmissions, gear couplings can be selected. For transmissions that require severe impact loads or to eliminate shaft torsional vibration, tire couplings and other couplings with high elasticity can be selected.

The working speed of the custom coupling and the centrifugal force. For high-speed transmission shafts, custom couplings with high balance accuracy, such as diaphragm couplings should be selected, rather than slider couplings which has eccentricity.

The magnitude and direction of the relative displacement of the two axes. When it is difficult to maintain strict and precise alignment of the two shafts after installation and adjustment, or when the two shafts will have a large additional relative displacement during the working process, a flexible coupling should be used.

The reliability and working environment of the custom coupling. Custom coupling with spider  usually made of metal elements that do not require lubrication are more reliable. The performance of custom coupling is easily affected by the perfect degree of lubrication and may pollute the environment. Custom coupling containing non-metallic components such as rubber are sensitive to temperature, corrosive media and strong light, and are prone to aging.   • Bushed pin flexible coupling can be used to connect which have small parallel misalignments, angular misalignment or axial misalignments, for example, automobiles.

  • Universal joint can be used to transmit rotary motion or power, for example, aircraft, driveshafts and so on.

  • Oldham coupling is useful in applications where parallel misalignment is present, for example, printing applications.

Unlike other shaft couplings, the slider coupling does not have an elastic element that can work like a spring, so the bearing load will not increase due to the increase in the relative displacement between the shafts. This design is suitable for large parallel relative displacements. The separate three-part design of the slider coupling limits its ability to compensate for axial deviations, for example, it cannot be used in push-pull applications.
