What is the function of flexible coupling?

Angular misalignment is produced when the center lines of the two equipment shafts of the flexible coupling connects are not parallel and they intersect at an angle. Offset misalignment commonly called parallel offset, is when the two shaft centerlines are parallel and they do not intersect, they are offset by some distance. Axial misalignment is caused by changes in the axial position of the shafts which moves the close to each other or further apart. 

Because of the elastic element of the flexible coupling, the elastic element can cause great ductility deformation and damping. Therefore, the flexible coupling can not only compensate for the relative deviation of the two shafts, but also cause buffering and vibration absorption. However, a flexible coupling with a certain value of bending rigidity does not have the actual effect of shock absorption under the effect of random variable torque.
